About LSLD Chandra Thomas Scholarship 

INSPIRATION

Leatha's Soul Line Dancing, LLC started the Chandra Thomas Scholarship Foundation in 2013. We named our scholarship fund after Chandra to celebrate her life and to continue her legacy of service to others. Chandra Thomas had a passion for people and helping others. While attending Clark College she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and participated in several service projects to better the lives of others. For several years, as a girl scout leader, she mentored many young girls. Chandra fought a courageous battle before succumbing peacefully to breast cancer in 2009...


SCHOLARSHIP

Providing assistance to deserving students for higher education has always been a dream of Arletha. If you are an active line dancer and/or an associate of an active line dance member, in the united states, you are eligible to apply for the LSLD Chandra Thomas Scholarship. Each applicant MUST provide proof of school/college enrollment. Leatha's Soul Line Dancing, LLC and LSLD Chandra Thomas Foundation Board members and their family members are ineligible to apply and/or receive scholarship monies. 

Up to four Scholarship will be awarded each year. The winner will be notified via email or by a phone call. Leatha’s Soul Line Dancing, LLC reserves the right to withhold scholarship monies pending verification of the student's eligibility. No applicant is considered to be a scholarship winner until the verification process is complete. Once selected as the winner, if applicant does not return the required verification information by the deadline date established by Selection Committee, he/she will be disqualified, and a new winner will then be selected to receive the scholarship in his/her place.

The Scholarship Application Deadline is December 31. Notification of the scholarship award winners will be announced in January, of the following year

The scholarship awards will be presented annually, in February, during LSLD 4th Saturday event. 


CRITERIA​

  • Applicant must be an active line dance member or an associate of a line active line dance member
  • Applicant must be actively involved in community service
  • Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited higher learning institution (college, tech school, trade school)
  • Applicant may not be a previous winner
  • Applicant must be 26 or under the age of 26
  • Applicant may nominate themselves or be nominated by an active line dance family member
